I AM A LICENSED THERAPIST, AUTHOR, EDITOR, PARENT, AND YOUTH ADVOCATE. I HAVE HAD A WONDERFULLY VARIED CAREER AS A JOURNALIST, BOOKSTORE OWNER, UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATOR, PUBLIC SPEAKER, URBAN FARMER, AND FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS, A THERAPIST WHO SPECIALIZES IN WORKING WITH THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY, TRANS CHILDREN AND TEENS, AS WELL AS A VARIETY OF FOLKS WHO STRUGGLE WITH DEPRESSION, ANXIETY AND SOME SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS SUCH AS BIPOLAR DISORDER AND SCHIZOPHRENIA.

Fantastic news: The transgender child has just been published in spanish!
not just a translation, but a revised edition specifically designed to be culturally sensitive and inclusive for spanish speaking families all over the world. We are delighted that pax /terra de libros has produced such a wonderful new edition for us! it can be ordered from terradelibros.com if you're unable to order it from your local bookstore. I was recently a featured speaker at the guadalajara book fair to promote the book and meet my readers-always a favorite activity! And i was also interviewed extensively for spanish media while in guadalajara.
the companion volume, for teens, is also out in spanish, as pictured above. Both books were featured at the book fair.

the new, revised and greatly expanded 2nd edition (in english) of the transgender child IS also OUT!

More About me:
during my training, I did extensive clinical work at several organizations such as the AIDS Health Project and Dimensions Clinic for youth. Since then, I have worked at several well respected agencies such as Stars Community Services and Kaiser Permanente.

Areas of clinical expertise include depression and anxiety, communication and relationship issues, and more serious mental health concerns, such as bipolar disorder. I'm also extremely knowledgable about the therapeutic needs of the LGBT community, including coming out issues, relationship/couples issues, and conception, pregnancy and parenting concerns. i also work with transgender children, teens, and adults. I enjoy working with people of all ages, cultures, and gender identities, and especially welcome teens and young adults to my practice.

As an author, I have more than 30 years experience writing for the alternative press and publishing books. My articles and essays have appeared in hundreds of news outlets ranging from the Bay Guardian to Art Forum. I was a founding editor at Curve magazine, where I regularly wrote music and book reviews. I'm currently featured in the wonderful documentary "Ahead of the Curve" which is now available on streaming services and even shown on some airlines! I have been profiled in the new york times and was recently the featured speaker for davis parent university (link below).
